To me it's the other way around. Other M at least wasn't the end of such a great mini-series. Corruption was WAY too linear compared to the previous ones, had hardly any backtracking and interlocking areas, and the story was crap as a finale.
Other M made Samus look like the biggest pussy in the whole world. It's nice to leave her mostly unknown, makes her more interesting, like in the other games. Goes in, does her ass kicking shit, and then moves along. Instead of having her answer to someone to use her own suits/weapons, get obsessed about a baby Metroid she didn't really give THAT many shits about (I mean, she just handed him over to scientists), Other M kind of railroads you much more than I think Corruption does seeing that a lot of things are just way too easy, like dodging. It's like a babying game. Her voice is so lifeless and deadpan, she explains symbolism way too much, the cutscenes are way too long, Adam even "does the last level" for you and it's complete bullshit she's "afraid" of Ridley enough to freeze in place (even show up as a little girl briefly) and let a bad thing happen to someone else nearby. The gameplay isn't that bad, but the story complete ruins it and Samus.
No it did not make her look like the biggest pussy. People just exaggerate things to no end is all. Yes it wasn't good characterization, but her, and the game itself, is NOWHERE near as bad as people make it out to be.
And how the hell does Adam do a level? He's not involved in playing the game what-so-ever.
Other M at least explains how Ridley comes back for once.
And, as much as I make fun of it, I don't mind that you like it. I'm not trying to change your mind, I understand a lot of people liked it. I'm just saying why I didn't like it because I don't think it's COMPLETELY uncalled for, even though I'm a huge fan of Metroid. I don't think I'm out of line, really, just like you're not out of line for actually really liking it LOL
I wish it hadn't, too. I wish we could trade opinions about each of the games LOL so we can both enjoy both.
I thought it was fun. I just try to have fun with what they give. In the end, if I kill Metroids and Ridley and collect items and have a final boss, and get to run around and explore, I'm good LOL I don't need any special treatment for Samus, just the classic old good time
Really? Even though she froze in place in front of Ridley? And like I said, you're right, the gameplay isn't that bad but it's hard to look past someone making a mockery of one of my favourite characters LOL And maybe, in the end, it exists so people can either enjoy the plot/gameplay or enjoy making fun of it.
LOL I meant a sector. It's why I put it in quotes. The one where he...for some... reason... decided to die in. Where all the fun Metroids are that we can't even kill even though that's part of the fun of being Samus. We didn't even get to kill one, Adam did it after first shooting... us for some reason.
They even ruined that by making him have the lamest little evolution thinking it would "trick us" even though the second one basically looks like him, he just needs a haircut. And even the first one she explains in her head too much (says it feels like it's...feeding off her power? He's just eating, Samus, calm your tits) so you kind of figure it out anyway.
The thing is, Metroid games don't really NEED that much explanation. Who cares about the plot or her personal emotions, just give us the characters we love to kill and actually let us kill them! We didn't even GET to kill Ridley. We don't mind if she suddenly loses all of her weapons/items in one random blast. We love to collect them ourselves. Don't make us have everything and just... not get to use them. Oh, you're dying from the heat? Hold on, I haven't authorized you to protect yourself yet.... ok now you can.
Yes, even in spite of the "Ridley" scene. She still kicked his ass and everything.
And I've have never understood why anyone has been disappointed with not going into Sector Zero. They're ****ing unfreezable Metroids! YOU WOULD DIE! Adam specifically sacrificed himself because Samus needed to live to take care of MB and the other crap that was still on the station.
Also, I know I'm stupid, but I didn't realize that Little Birdie was Ridley until right outside the boss room.
And plots in Metroid are just fine. Fusion proved that. And Ridley certainly still needs to be explained how he's alive in Super.
Although now I can't even remember, did they actually bring in Metroids that were killable to fight? I never finished the game because I had to give it back but I have seen theater mode for the rest and that was already too much. I don't want to pay 40 bucks for it for myself LOL
